Animal Control Newsletter

The grand opening of the new animal control facility is the beginning of a new era in animal control for the city of Claremore.  The new facility will provide improved operations by allowing for a larger animal capacity, improved environment for the animals due to adequate kennel area, improved sanitary conditions due to the ease of cleaning and maintaining the new kennel area and improved adoption rate due to the more convenient location of the new facility.

            We are also taking steps to provide the staff with adequate training and equipment needed to perform their job duties.  Each of our animal control officers have received training or are scheduled to receive training in the following areas:

• Animal cruelty investigations
• Animal husbandry
• Dog fighting investigations
• Basic and advanced animal control techniques
• Euthanasia

plus many other topics as they become available. 

Each animal control officer is also working towards certifications from various animal control associations and will be certified as nuisance wildlife control operators through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. 

            We have plans to become more involved and proactive in the community with programs designed to educate the public about responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs.  Topics of these public programs will include:

• Facts you need to know before you adopt a family pet
• Caring for your new pet
• Spay/neuter facts and statistics- Why it is important
• What to do and how to handle stray or abandoned animals
• Nuisance wildlife animal awareness and facts
